Field Day

In April, Hayley & Jake had Field Day at school.  This is always one of the best days of school.  Per Mangum Family tradition, the night before we filled a couple of coolers full of water balloons for the the water balloon toss.  Luke loved how the crazy balloons would get loose and fly all over the kitchen, spraying us with water.  I guess that is one way to mop the floor :)

Hayley's class totally speed through all the events and were just finishing up when Luke and I arrived.  But Hayley & her friends were super excited to see Luke.

Jake's class was way behind in the events so we got to watch lots of things with him (& Luke participated too!). Jake's teacher this year was so great.  Here she is super cute and super pregnant (9 months!). She was a trooper out there in the heat, even letting the kids throw a water balloon at her.

It was a great morning of fun. Trevor was bummed to miss it as a big middle school kid.  So we had to recreate a little water balloon action of our own that afternoon!

Various School Spring Activities

Everyone kept pretty busy this spring at school.

April 12th Michael was inducted in the National Honor Society.  It was a great ceremony.  Loved that Michael borrowed one of Trevor's bow ties for the big event!  In May Michael also performed 2 memorized classical piano pieces in his Spring Recital.

April 17th Trevor flew onto the stage in a short but very intense adaptation of Edgar Allen Poe's "The Tell-Tale Heart. It was a sit-on-the edge of your seat performance as the vultures were inches from us in the black box theater.

Hayley was amazing as the Chinese narrator in her Spring Performance Play.  She also did fantastic in the District UIL Finals in May, bringing home a finalist medal in Impromptu Speaking and a 2nd Place Trophy in Oral Reading for all of HISD!

I think these girls have a lot of fun together!

In addition to several fun field trips, Jake spent some time making an amazing pond habitat for a school project.  Hayley was a big help with this project.  It's great to have kids who help and cheer each other on!

As for "Me and my Shadow", we are lucky enough to be able to catch glimpses of most of the fun at the schools.  I think Luke believes he is part of the school kids too, between Tuesday Folders for Jake's class, Hayley's room parent & a UIL coach. It has been a fun year!

Ordinations

Easter Sunday was a big day for these two young men.

Michael was ordained a Priest in the Aaronic Priesthood.

Trevor was ordained a Deacon in the Aaronic Priesthood.

We are so proud of the great choices Michael and Trevor make daily and the wonderful young men they are becoming.  We love you!

Easter Family Pictures

Since we had a lot of the family here on Easter, we attempted to take a few pictures after church while everyone still looked nice.

Some fun cousin pictures

And a couple individual shots

Easter Week-end

Easter was extra special this year.  With Michael turning 16 and Trevor turning 12 within 5 days of each other, we had a couple of significant Priesthood Ordinances that occurred Easter Sunday.  In celebration of the ordinations and Easter, we had a lot of family come visit.  Don's parents were here, as well as my parents, and 2 of my brothers with their families.  It was great!

My parents came down Friday with 3 of the cousins, Alex, Abby & Anna. Having an extra night with cousins is always awesome. Saturday the rest of the gang joined us. We had fun playing, talking and swimming.

Michael was at a church youth conference Friday and Saturday but joined up with us Saturday night.

Cynthia and Michael

The menfolk took the kiddos to the neighborhood park while us ladies stayed behind, filling and hiding Easter Eggs.  When they got back at dusk, it was time for a surprise Egg Hunt.

Sunday came early and we had a wonderful Easter service at church.  The younger kids sang a song in the program and Michael and Trevor were ordained as a Priest and Deacon in the Aaronic Priesthood (more on that later).  After church everyone came back for a wonderful Easter Dinner and fun together.
