Ivan the Terrible

This summer we have pet sat for a couple different dogs and our neighbor's cats.  It was the first time we had the experience of lizzard watching though.  Trevor took care of his friend Morgan's bearded dragon lizard, Ivan.  He had the pleasure of feeding it live worms and got quite good at shredding carrots for him to eat as well.

Trevor is definitely my animal loving kid.  No fear there.  I still shudder when I see this picture. Can't imagine letting a huge lizzard crawl around on my head, but Trevor loved it!

Father's Day

It was so great to spend Father's Day with the wonderful men in our lives.  My parents were down for a quick trip and we had a great week-end together.  So happy to be with my dad a little while on Father's Day & try to spoil him a little.

Later we had dinner Father's Day with Don's parents, his brother Matt & their cousins.  I love living so close to family and having these great celebrations together.  Look at these wonderful men!

It was fun to go around the room and talk about favorite memories of our dads.  Loved Jared's Indian Headdress he pulled out for the occasion.

And no Meier/Mangum gathering is complete without a baby Jack sighting - love that cute baby of Jared & Chelsey's.  So fun that we get to see him each week at church. Love this picture of Jack and his sweet grandmother, Tracy spending a quiet moment together.

We had fun celebrating the great dads in our lives today, starting off with breakfast in bed for Don & the kiddos.

Thanks for being such a great father to our 5 kids Don! Love you!!

The 50 Miler

In June Michael and Trevor went on the 50 Miler, a 50+ mile hike with their Scout troop. The original plan was to backpack through the Sabine National Forest 28 miles in to a big lake, camp a day or 2 and backpack out. They carried everything on their backs, including the dehydrated food that they were supposed to make with water sterilized from the creeks along the trail.

Doing something like this in the hot 100+ degree summer heat was definitely a character building experience. Overcoming obstacles like all the water sources being dried up and getting lost along the trail several miles into the hike on a very long first day was a faith building experience. Thankfully they were able to make their way back to the cars (with the help of a half-naked Indian!). The wise decision was made to drive to the lake and make it a base camp and just do day hikes for several days. That worked great except for when the monsoon like rains came and they had to relocate and camp in a Baptist church parking lot one night to avoid the lightening. Never a dull moment!

Definitely a week these Scouts will never forget!

Lots of stories, miracles and amazing experiences came from this week of roughing it. So grateful everything turned out as well as it did and my chigger & tick attacked, extremely tired Scouts came back safe and sound.

Anna's Baptism

We had a great trip to Dallas in June to see sweet Anna get baptized.  It was a wonderful afternoon!

Children's Museum with Cousins

Luke was able to play a little longer with his Minnesota cousins when everyone else left after the reunion and his big brothers and sisters had to go back to school. We had a lot of fun together at the Children's Museum.  It was hard to get a picture of everyone together, there was so much to see and do!

Mangum Mania - Part 2

Mangum Mania Family Reunion, the 2nd Half -
Sunday we had a great time together.  We kicked off the day with a nice family gathering that included family history stories and pictures, followed by a great meal.  The rest of the day was spent in typical Mangum fashion, just relaxing, talking, and chilling out with each other.

We started Monday off with a splash, hitting up the YMCA pool for some swimming fun. The afternoon was spend playing Mangum Mania games that kept us all laughing. There was definitely a lot of monkeying around :)

We wrapped up the evening and reunion fun with the Mangum Mania Top Banana Awards Ceremony.

We love these family reunions and the memories made together and can't wait until the next one!!
