Breaking Free

Luke gets around a lot of different ways these days.

When he's in a hurry, he crawls...

When he is happy, he stands and tries to walk...up to about 11 steps so far

Sometimes he just stands and laughs...



Luke has a sweet new ride in the car...

And still loves the good life, napping in a stroller when we are on the go!

And of course, being carried by his mama still ranks pretty high!

Gold Medal!

On Friday Hayley had her last gymnastics class and her "gold medal ceremony". Hayley has had a great time in gymnastics and can now do all sorts of fun things like one handed cartwheels. It was fun to go early and watch her do some tricks.

Mother's Day

In the midst of all the end of school activities, I overlooked blogging about Mother's Day. It was a sweet day, filled with love, fun and good food. We started off with breakfast in bed, one of Jake's favorite traditions he informed me. Even Luke got in on the action this year, loving the bowl of fresh fruit and even fed me & Michael some. It was pretty funny.

We had a great day at church with the kids singing a cute mother's day song, complete with pictures they had drawn of their mothers. I got a lot of homemade cards and notes with fun pictures. Don was able to stay in our church building and keep Luke while I did Primary stuff. I guess priesthood meetings aren't quite as exciting as Primary from the look of Luke after church!

That evening Don's parents & his cousin came to dinner.



The kids loved playing with Dr. Kevin and it was great to have time to visit with everyone. And I was able to end the day talking to my mom on the phone.



Luke gave us all a fun Mother's Day gift and took his first real steps! More on that to come...

UIL

This year I had the opportunity to coach Trevor & a group of fifteen 4th/5th graders in an Oral Reading UIL at the school. We participated in 2 tournaments, one of them being HISD District Meet, and our school won both tournaments. Trevor also participated in the Number Sense UIL event where he learned all sorts of math tricks. Since only 3 kids could compete in each event, and Trevor was so great at Number Sense which overlapped in the competition time with my Oral Reading group, he just competed in Number Sense at both tournaments.

The tournaments were all day events so there was a lot of down time in between individual events where the kids could play games together and have fun.

It was great to spend some one on one time with Trevor and have fun together.

And of course, winning is always fun too :)

Last Song

Michael played in his last middle school symphonic band concert recently. He has really excelled at the French Horn over the last 3 years, rising from the ranks of beginning brass band to 1st chair in the highest symphonic band. Michael competed in Solo & Ensemble competitions and won a gold metal this year. Much to his teacher's dismay, Michael probably won't be playing in high school, at least not his freshman year.

The last song they play is "Call of the Champions" during which the 8th graders all get up during the last part of the song and walk to the front of the auditorium.

Tea Time

Hayley was invited to her first real tea(lemonade) party last week.

The girls were told to wear their prettiest party dresses to the party.

Hayley came home accessorized with a spring hat, pretty flowers & feathery boa.

May Whirlwinds

May is always a whirlwind of activity with all the end of school year and springtime activites.

You have your Special Projects...

Hayley researched Alexander Fleming and did a big presentation on him at school. The best part of this project is they did it all at school and she now knows how to use her own USB flash drive and is getting more computer savvy than her mom!



Trevor had a big Texas project and he & his friend Zac made a Texasopoly game. They renamed all the properties to represent significant places in Texas history & made property cards with facts about each place. It was a fun project to work on and a fun project to play!

Trevor went on his 4th grade Texas Trek to a fun camp called "Camp for All" where he got to spend the day fishing, canoeing, horseback riding and doing other fun things outside.

LOST!!!

IT'S OFFICIAL!!!

Sunday night Hayley finally LOST her first tooth!

1 Year Stats

At 1 year, Luke weighed in at 20 lbs, 8 oz. and was over 30 inches long. Our tall,lean machine still has a gignormous head (95%) but does seem to be growing into it. He cut his two top teeth the week after his birthday, bringing his total to 4 teeth in his super cute toothy grin.

Luke pulls up on everything and cruises but hasn't been interested in taking any actually steps yet. Why walk when you have super fast olympic crawling abilities? Even the doctor commented about how fast he is. You should see him shoot into the kitchen if he hears me doing the dishes. The dishwasher is his favorite thing to try to climb on!

Our little guy is still the crowd favorite around here & always makes us smile. Luke has such an easy going personality. He loves to clap and even bop his head to music and does a funny little dance sometimes. We love you Luke!
