April's Fools Day!

This year was a low key April Fool's Day around the house.  There have been a surplus of big tree roaches in Houston this spring (okay, so really any roach is a surplus, but you know that!) So I decided to play to that and print up a bunch of copies of paper tree roaches to tape on the door and put in the bathroom sink.  Unfortunately, that one worked a little too well on a half asleep Jake as he went to wash his hands after using the restroom at 6:30 in the morning.  He turned on the water, then looked down at all the paper roaches now swimming in the sink and started screaming, running out of the bathroom, right into the door. Ouch.  But after he calmed down, he went back and laughed about it, and ended up telling all his friends about it at school. 

Another unseen advantage of having roaches taped to the front door is that Luke wouldn't try to open the door and run out, instead he just stood in the entry way, pointing and babbling at the door. 

 While they were sleeping, I stuffed tissue in the toes of each of one of their shoes so when they put it in, it felt like their foot was too big for their shoe. For breakfast I did the ole' cereal box switcheroo, switching out the cereals in each box so when they poured it, they got a different type than they were expecting.



While Michael was at seminary, we taped his cell phone under his kitchen chair so he would have to call it to find it. The other kids were in on it and were a little too excited about it, asking him where his phone was as soon as he walked in the door, so he knew something was up!  But it was fun to watch him call his phone & find it, shaking his head and smiling at us.


Then for their school lunches, the famous grape hidden in the Hershey Kiss wrapper trick ... and yes, I did have to eat those extra Hershey kisses. It is important to hide the evidence you know! 


 

At dinner I just did a twist on the lemonade trick. They were all expecting koolaid in their cups instead of lemonade like in past years. So this year I had Hayley watch me make real lemonade and pour it into their glasses, then put the pitcher of koolaid lemonade on the table so when they needed seconds, they would try to pour it and it wouldn't work. Hayley was too smart and realized the pitcher was a different one, but she got in on the trick and played it up for the boys to fall for it.

All in all, not a bad day's work...although nothing will ever top April Fool's Day of 2 years ago.  See here for details.   Maybe that is why Don is still not a big fan of this kooky holiday :)  Hope your day was fun too!

BREAKFAST

The ole' changing milk prank in the cereal.
Instructions: Put food coloring in the bottom of the bowl without the kids noticing. Pour desired cereal. Put bowl in front of child. Pour white milk and watch the funny reactions as the milk changed colors.

LUNCH

The Great Chocolate Swap Prank.
Instructions: Get Hershey Kisses for kids lunches. Remove wrappers of Hershey Kisses. Input Grapes into foil wrappers and rewrap, including little white kiss tag paper to make look real. Put into lunch box.

Important - Eat Hershey Kisses yourself,you don't want to leave any evidence behind!

DINNER

The Drink Swap.
Instructions: Replace water in glasses with clear fruity Kool-Aid when no one is paying attention. Don came to dinner a few minutes after we started and Jake kept telling him to drink his water and giggling, making everyone laugh & making Don wonder what exactly we did to his drink...

AND....

THE ULTIMATE PRANK WHEN YOU ARE ALMOST 38 WEEKS PREGNANT

The Water Breaking Moment.
Instructions: Fill 2 water balloons prior to dinner. Hide in safe spot...I think you know where :)

Call everyone to dinner and make sure everyone has started eating. Sit down carefully & start normal dinner conversation. Start to stand up while secretly popping water balloon, allowing water to whoosh and run down your legs, chair and floor. Sit back down with weird expression on face while everyone figures out what is happening as chaos starts to occur. One child getting a towel, a lesson on what happens next when you are having a baby and when I should call the doctor...and of course, watching your spouse's face through it all...
and finally saying April Fools! Priceless.
