Pi Day and Dallas Spring Break Fun

Over Spring Break, we headed up to Dallas for a couple of days.  We arrived at my parents on Pi Day, (3.14), so we had to celebrate with some delicious pie! So glad Ben & LeeAnna stopped by to party with us!

The next day I took the kids to Bob & Cynthia's house to have fun with cousins.  After spending a few hours with them, I headed back to my parents house for a special one on one time without the kiddos.  My dad started his first round of treatment for his cancer and I was glad to be able to be there to help out and spend some quality time with my parents.  Big thanks to Bob & Cynthia for taking the kids...who of course didn't miss me a bit - as they had a fun night of movies, cooking hot dogs and smores over the fire pit in the backyard. I heard they had like 20 kids there with all the cousins & neighborhood friends.  It's always a party at their house - so fun!

The Biggest Strawberry Ever!

Saturday we all meet up at Bob & Cynthia's to hang out a few hours before I headed back to Houston with the kids that afternoon.  We made it back, just in time for Michael to change and head out to a youth dance.  Busy but fun couple of days!

Berry Picking ...or not

During Spring Break we try to do lots of fun things.  This year I had heard of a new strawberry farm & thought it would be great to go pick our own berries.  So we drove 45 minutes away to the country, made a wrong turn on Cowhide Drive...real name.  Found our way to the farm.  Waited in line for 45 minute for a anticlimactic tractor pulled hay ride.  These pictures just ooze a portion of the excitement of the morning.

Afterwards went to go pick berries.  OUT OF BERRIES!  Seriously.  It was not even 11 in the morning.  To make up for the disastrous outing, I drove through Wendy's on the long way back and everyone got to "pick" something off the dollar menu.  Frosty's work magic sometimes!

With the exception of Luke loving the 'Sand Mountain', it was a total bust of an activity & has killed any future visions of happy berry picking children.  When I later learned of another place that actually had berries, & suggested going, there were wails of despair and gnashing of teeth, as well as some choice sarcastic comments (shocking, I know!).  There are always the peach orchrds to try this summer  ;-)

Skipping School

2 out of 5 days isn't so bad right?!  The week before Spring Break, Trevor only made it to school 2 days.  The other days he was off singing at a Choir UIL competition and the prelims and finals of a Name that Book competition.  Good thing the boy is smart and the teachers didn't seem to mind :)

Trevor has loved singing in the Varsity Choir at school this year.  We catch him singing and humming everywhere these days.  His groups did fantastic at the competition, receiving superior ratings.

Trevor still loves his books & is the team captain of the Name that Book Team at his middle school.  They blew everyone out of the water at the prelims, winning by the biggest margin in over a decade.  Two days later the team took 3rd place in the district, one of the best showings ever by the school.  Trevor is rarely found without a book or 4 in his possession. Trevor will be volunteering at the library this summer.  What better way to have first dibs on the new books coming out?!
